G324 - Final Digipak

Posted by Olivia Calver

G324 - Magazine Advertisement Draft 3 and Feedback

Feedback 1:
Good use of font on the polaroid picture to create a consistent house style across all products.
The use of a Polaroid picture makes it link well with the song.
The images are too dark and squashed, plus they could link better to the digipak/ video.
The font used at the bottom is too basic.
The concept of the advert being a polaroid picture hasn't been fully justified.

G324 - Digipak Draft 3 and Feedback

Tom:

I like the front cover, nice photography.

I would have carried on the wooden flooring background on the back cover instead of it being white.

Could you make the Thank you text font slightly bigger?

I wouldn’t carry the coffee stain onto the spine, nice idea but just leave it on the back.

Nice use of small print on back.

Erin:

I like the Polaroid pictures because it matches with the title.

I don’t like that one of the pictures is blank, it doesn’t make sense.

I like the guitar’s sound hole as the CD.

Can’t tell the narrative of the video through looking at the digipak.

G324 - Magazine Advertisement Draft 2 and Feedback

Feedback 1
I don't like the way that the pictures are all slightly squashed, they look awkward.
I would change the font and placement of ' Out the 1st Jan 2016.
You wouldn't have both on ITunes and Google play, it would be one or the other.

I like the font of Frank Turner and Polaroid Picture.
Nice record logo.

Feedback 2
Needs to be square use the polaroid template for the actual thing .
writing under neither the photo and information under neither the picture
reduce images

G324 - Digipak Draft 2 and Feedback

Feedback:
You still need to add production notes to the back cover and add either some dedications or lyrics onto one of the inside panels. The font has gone a bit funny, especially close up, on the front cover and the logo so consider how you can make that crisper as otherwise it won't print properly. The tea stain on the back cover is nice as it makes the back cover look more like a polaroid picture but the thumb on the front cover is out of place. Consider making the front cover contain a polaroid picture rather than being a polaroid picture and swap the photo of the artist for a polaroid picture of the children from the video to create that connection between the two products, as well as to prevent the artist from appearing too much within the digipak.

G324 - Rough Cut 2 and Feedback

Feedback 1
Work on the cuts; they need to be more on beat and a little more frequent as some shots are "just too long".
The shot at the start and end with the blank polaroid picture is a little too obvious and doesn't obviously act as a metaphor for all the shots. It's really obviously purely black when we are looking over his shoulder.
The end with the friend getting ready isn't obvious enough that its the other child; it looks like the artist still as both are in dark shirts and the face is not on show.

Feedback 2
Put effects on the scenes of the children to ensure that it looks like you are flashing back in time.
Lip syncing is good the majority of the time, but some aspects are slightly off so adjust those.
The actor is really suitable.
The guitar is synchronised really well.
What's going on with the woman?!
Shot of the old arcade is WAYYY too long.

G324 - Magazine Advertisement Draft 1 and Feedback

Feedback 1
To improve the ad you need to add social media links and website. Change the picture to a square one to make it relate more to a polaroid picture. Change the font As the current one is too basic which is boring and doesn't relate to the genre well. Put the title at the bottom of the polaroid picture rather than across it. Also I am not a massive fan of the picture you have chosen to use maybe try another, Possibly one with a guitar?

G324 - Digipak Draft 1 and Feedback

Feedback:
1
I don't like the text used on the front cover.
The pictures are mainly fine but the photo of the building is out of place and doesn't match the colour scheme.
You could add some text or lyrics onto some of the photos to make them more exciting - I like a good sing song.
You need to put something on the spine.

2
The front cover needs more vibrancy; there is no clear distinction between the artist and the background. You need to make the artist pop out. The front and back cover don't quite look like polaroid pictures... and there needs to be more details printed on the back cover. The bottom strip is too sparse. The inside images are all nicely linked to each other but the building doesn't fit in with the colour scheme. The inside images are a bit plain - maybe add in lyrics or dedications on one or two of the panels? The logo and text need to be positioned slightly further away from the edge and the track names and numbers should be made slightly smaller.

3
I think you should use a less harsh combination between the black and white on the front cover between the background and the text because the rest of the digipak has a very calm/ relaxing feel. It still needs to stand out but it should be softer on the eye; maybe try some varying shades of brown?

G324 - Rough Cut 1 and Feedback

Feedback:
Mr B:
The first chorus shot is too long. There is a flaw in your narrative - who is the guy in the tie? We need to have a clear narrative built up before he comes in. If you're struggling with the narrative as you have it, swap it over so that it's the singer that abandoned his friend, rather than the other way around. We need to have more actual polaroid pictures in there somewhere.

Mrs W:
For the majority of the first verse, lip sync a younger version of the artist to create a clear connection between the two people and to indicate that things have changed over time. You haven't done as much as you could have for this. You could use a close up on his phone for the line about not having his number, film a polaroid camera taking and printing a picture, create polaroid pictures of a wedding and of children and lay them in front of the camera throughout the video duration. Also, the first chorus shot IS too long. Break it up with the shots I mentioned before.

This will help us when it comes to creating the magazine advertisement as it allows us to ensure that we collect all of the photographs that we need and gives the actors an opportunity to see when they will be needed and what they will be required to do.
